Margaret's Deck, A place to hang out.

    The Great Himalayan Tourism

     Kalimpong, India.

Margaret's Deck

Located very close to Tung Railway Station    and a few kilometer away from Kurseong town.

Situated at a very prime location is one of it's advantage to become very popular within a very short period of time.

The two must visit reasons are, firstly the amazing view of greeny hills and the lushy green tea gardens sloping downhills and secondly the unique flavour of authentic teas of Darjeeling.

Away from the crowd, if you want to spend some beautiful moments in this serene place, looking at the mountains and the tea gardens sip into some beautifully flavoured tea is simply outstanding. This amazing deck is actually belongs to Goodrick Tea Pot.

This is a hanging deck shaped like a ship's front with a beautiful open veranda from where one can have a amazing view of the mountains and the tea gardens.  and when the fog comes up and covers the lower part of the deck, it looks like the deck is really floating in the air. If you are lucky then you will get the chance to sit at the veranda side, otherwise you have to adjust yourself in a glass case in the middle of the deck though the views are visible from here.

If you go back to history of Margaret's hope tea garden. In the earliest twentieth century the garden was known as  Bara Ringtong later the garden was given a name in the memory of a daughter of the tea estate's manager.

It's been 150 years, Margaret's Hope continues to produce it's famous first flush, spring tea which has a flowery aroma and golden colour. It's second flush produces a melow cup with musketeer's character at bronze colour. The Goodrick tea pot at the Margaret's Deck also has a exclusive shop with a huge stock of different tea packets and products of Goodrick.

The deck itself divided into two part, the lobby, one can taste the tea from different gardens of  Darjeeling hills and second one is the restaurant section, which serves mouth watering continental and local delicacies.

These days Margaret's Deck is popular for everyone because of quality of food they are serving and secondly the tea varieties, they are also serving some imported teas like Turkish mint tea and Thurbo Kasmiri Kawa in their menu. Tea they are selling in a pot basis and the rate differs as its tea variety.

Meals comes in a combo, and the cost comes around 550/- Indian rupees of a plate, there's like chicken curry with mula ko chana (chopped radish) ,  pork curry with mustard greens and Ningro with churpi (fern with feta cheese). The expenses here is  a bit on the higher side. mostly they are serving the continental dishes, expenses for two heads is roughly Rs, 600/- to Rs,1000/-. The white tea costs around Rs,350/- for single pot and Rs,550/- for double pot.

I am pretty sure that you don't mind paying the costly bill after visiting here, there are lot more to do and see in this deck which is not possible in here to express. DO visit someday and feel by yourself.
